My Village

Dedigama village, the birthplace of King Parakramabahu (I) is also my birthplace. Our Village is located at a distance of 3.2km from the Nelundeniya junction on the Colombo Kandy road. King Parakramabahu ruled in Polonnaruwa and he later built the stupa at this place to commemorate his birthplace. In various chronicles and inscriptions, Dedigama is called by different names such as Punkhagama, Jatigama, Dathigama, and Gnathigama. According to a Folk story, the shape of the village was related to a sickle, and then it was known as that 'dathigama' and it converted to Dedigama.

During the excavations, a number of artifacts including a unique hanging  lamp known as Eth pahana were discovered from the Kotawehera Stupa. Most of the antiquities discovered from that place are currently in the Dedigama Museum located nearby. Because of this, my village is of historical value.

Also, my village is rich in natural beauty🥬🥀.  Mountain🌄, fields streams, and rivers make my village even more beautiful. The temple of the village is surrounded by a mountain range and is situated in the middle of paddy fields, which further enhances its beauty.  At present all facilities are being developed. My schools🏫, Dedigama Perakumba National School and the Dedigama primary school, a police station🚨, and a post office📮 in our village. Likewise, the people of the village work together for any common cause👬. I have been fortunate enough to live in such a peaceful environment💖.
